Mackinac Bridge Into Lake Michigan

Thursday August 1st.  What a day!  When we pulled out of St. Ignace the weather was great, the view awesome, and the 135 foot Mackinac Bridge loomed in the distance.  All was well for about two hours and then Lake Michigan decided to show us what it was capable of.  The wind shifted, the waves increased and we were out there with no place to go for about 50 miles.  Needless to say this is a day we will not forget.  Mike even said that he had, had enough for one day.  We finally arrived at Petoskey around 9:00 pm. We are still here at Petoskey today and will spend one more night. We bought more line today to repair the dinghy ropes.  During the rough waters yesterday half of it broke loose and had to have an emergency tie.  Nothing was hurt and the rope work is being repaired as I blog. We also had to purchase a couple more bumpers as we have lost a couple of our older ones along the way. Petoskey is a very nice town located in Little Traverse Bay.  From here heading down Lake Michigan we will not have to ever cover as much open water as we did yesterday.  There will be ports of refuge about every twenty or so miles, YEAH!  Living the Adventure!
