Change of Plans and Underway Again
After waiting for over a week the Erie Canal is still not open for boating. The damage is great and no time to open has been given so we will continue on through the longer route that takes us through the Champlain Canal and up into Canada further so we can then come back down and into the Trent Severn Waterway. At least we have a plan B. This is known as a side trip for those doing the loop, Several larger boats could not make it on this route because of height clearance. We began the locks of Champlain today. There are a total of 12 on this canal. We are docked tonight at a free dock with electricity and water at Mechanicville a very nice little town. The docks here have room for about seven boats and they are all loopers heading north. We have met several of them over the tri;p. Most of them like us have chosen this path instead of continuing to wait on the Erie. It is great to be moving again.
